The perked ears, eyes, mouth, and mane create a fierce looking countenance that gives this set its name.The ebonized pieces are polished to an obsidian black finish and has no visible grain while the cream colored natural boxwood is the perfect wood for the white chess pieces. The king is 4" tall and has a base diameter of 1.75". The pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board and have thick green baize pads for easily sliding from square to square and a soft feel when placing. Our Walnut and Maple Deluxe Chess Board is made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain, the manufacturer of the highest quality inlaid chess boards in the world. Made from premium grade walnut and maple veneer, the precision of the craftsmen inlay work is remarkable. The squares are 2.125" and the overall size of the board is 21.5" and .5" thick. A triple inlay delimiter accentuates the playing area from the extra wide frame that is the full width of a square. The board is sealed with a matte polyurethane finish that both protects and enhances the beauty of the wood. The Fierce Knight with this beautiful chess board makes an excellent chess set to both leave out for dcorand playing a serious chess game.
