This unique chess set includes our Zagreb with ebonized and natural boxwood pieces matched with a mahogany and sycamore notated chess board.Our Zagreb series chess sets have been a mainstay in our collection for decades. This design became prominent in the 1950s when it was first used in the World Championship Candidates Match held in Zagreb in 1959. This set stands out from other Staunton designs with its opposite color tops on the king, queen, and bishop. The knight has a distinguishable down-turned head and graceful profile. Our ebonized chess pieces are beautifully produced and look like real ebony at less than half the price. This is an ideal tournament size set with a 3.9" tall king and a base diameter of 1.625". The pieces have thick green baize pads so they slide smoothly across the chess board and are heavily weighted for exceptional stability. We include 2 extra queens for pawn promotion. This beautiful chess board comes from Sunrise Chess and Games in Poland and is an excellent choice for matching with the ebonized and boxwood pieces. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made from premium quality mahogany and sycamore veneer. The craftsmanship of the inlay work is superb. Alpha-Numeric notation on the rank and file make it a great choice for club and tournament games to help with recording moves. The squares are 2.25" and the overall size of the board is 21.25" and .5" thick. The board is finished in a polyurethane matte finishto seal and protect the wood while enhancing the natural colors. There are corner felt pads on the bottom of the board to protect whatever surface it sets on.
