Inspired by and named for the magnificent stallion of Simon Bolivar, the Palomo is a large club size chess set with a contemporary Staunton design unique from any other in our collection. The black pieces are made from genuine ebony polished to an obsidian black finish while the white pieces are made from the highest quality boxwood and polished to a fine luster. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to create a cohesive collection of pieces from king to pawn. The columns have a graceful profile that curve out beyond the layered collars creating a unique and elegant appearance. The knights are truly spectacular with a mane that gracefully flows down the back of the neck in every direction. The king is 4.4" tall with a 1.9" base and has as traditional crossformefinial. The pieces are heavily weighted and have green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so that you will always know where it came from and what it is.
