This colorful chess set package includes our Zagreb with padauk and boxwood pieces matched with our Padauk and Bird's Eye Maple Molded Edge Chess Board. Without a doubt African padauk is one of the most beautiful woods in the world with colors that range from coral-orange to a red-burgundy. Our Zagreb series chess sets have been a mainstay in our collection for decades. This design became prominent in the 1950s when it was first used in the World Championship Candidates Match held in Zagreb in 1959.This unique and handsome Staunton design has since become a favorite for chess players around the world and one of our most popular chess sets. We made a few minor changes such as adding a tapered base to enhance appearance and balance of the chess pieces while maintaining the integrity of the intended design.The king is 3.875" tall with a 1.625" wide base and features a traditional formee cross. The pieces are triple-weighted to produce a low-center of gravity and exceptional stability on the chess board. The pieces are padded with thick green baize for a nice cushion when picking up and moving or sliding across the chess board. The pieces are individually hand polished to beautiful luster.

Our exclusive Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Chess Board was specifically designed to pair with our padauk chessmen. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer. The quality of both the materials and workmanship in the construction of the chess board are simply unmatched. The squares are 55mm (~2.125") and the overall size of the board is 21.5" and .5" thick. A wide black inlay border accentuates the playing area enhancing the rich colors of the African padauk and bird's-eye maple and a black stained molded edge adds an elegant touch to the chess board. The wood is sealed with a satin polyurethane finish that gives the board a soft shine.
