This large and handsome chess set is named for General George S. Patton of the United States Army. Patton successfully led many critical military campaigns during World War II including the Battle of the Bulge. Patton possessed a colorful, fiery image and he had a hard-driving personality that his men loved. A worthy name for the battles that will be fought and won with this chess set.This set features an extraordinary knight with graceful lines and intricate detail carved including eyes, nostrils, mouth, teeth and a flared mane which shows movement. The king is 4.25" tall and features an ornate finial that is unique from any other chess set in our collection. The lathe work is extraordinary with compound collars and eloquent lines precisely turned into the base of each piece.The pieces are heavily weighted with green baize pads for a soft and cushioned feel on the chess board. Pieces are hand carved from African Padauk, a simply stunning, rich red-orange color and light amber color boxwood; each wood polished to a beautiful luster.
